AMERICORPS INTERNSHIP: TEACHER’S AIDE – 20010-11 AMERICORPS YEAR
Seeking a future teacher, counselor, and/or human service provider to work with and serve alongside urban youth in the South Los Angeles area. If you like working with young adults (16-24 years of age) to help improve their skills in the following subjects (one intern needed for each subject): 1) English, 2) Math, 3) Social Science and 4) Science…..and giving back to the community….then, this is a great opportunity for you!
CCEO Youthbuild is an innovative program designed to provide “at risk” youth aged 16-24 that reside in the Los Angeles area with preparation leading to a High School diploma, Life Skills and Leadership Development training concurrently with vocational and hands-on training in construction trades. Program participants will assist in building housing units for low and moderate-income families and be involved in providing services to the community through special projects. Upon completion of approximately nine months of training, members will be provided either assistance with job placement or continuation in post secondary education.
CCEO YouthBuild in Lennox, California has a full time AmeriCorps position available to start September 1st, 2010; Teacher’s Aide. This position will assist CCEO YouthBuild teachers in the classroom, as well as other areas of the organization.
Specific duties and responsibilities for this position:
1. Provide individual tutoring in language arts/ math/ social science or science 2. Provide small group facilitation of classroom activities 3. Assist teachers with classroom activities and other duties 4. Assist with job readiness training to all YouthBuild participants 5. Provide guidance and counseling to all students about possible careers and college placement 6. Perform any other reasonable function as directed by the Program Manager to the extent that it is not in conflict with the primary position responsibilities. Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills: – Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. – Organized and ability to manage details efficiently and effectively. – Computer proficient, including MS Word and Excel. – Flexibility, patience, tolerance and willingness to learn new related skills. – Experience in management and motivation of young people a plus. – A basic understanding of CCEO YouthBuild and commitment to the mission of the organization. events.
The benefits for completing a 10 month period of service include:
1) $1,200/mo. living allowance
2) Earn an Education award of up to $5,350.00 upon completion of 1,700 hours of service

The requirements include:
1) Complete 1,700 hours of service;
2) Be at least 21 years of age
3) Be a United States citizen or permanent resident

6) Be willing to make a ten month commitment (August – June, 2010)
