Author/Filmmaker salesperson intern needed for Radio Publicity campaigns
We are seeking information-loving interns to be part-time salespeople. If you’ve always thought you would be a good salesperson, and if you love books or indie films, then this is your chance! We won the Book Publicists of Southern California award for Book Publicist of the Year; several of our clients have had half-hour and full-hour interviews on talk radio stations right here in LA (as well as around the country.)
Radio has more listeners now than at any other time in history, and radio dwarfs Youtube when it comes to reaching people. While you may think that a Youtube video with 10,000 views is a success, it is actually just a fraction of what AM or FM radio delivers. Considering that Youtube is the entire world, cumulative from day one, it takes months or years to reach large numbers. However the number of “listens” you get with AM/FM radio interviews are:
Unrated market station: 150 listens per interview, on one station, in one city,
in one second.
Small market station: 300 listens per interview, on one station, in one city,
in one second.
Medium market station: 3,000 listens per interview, on one station, in one city,
in one second.
Major market station: 30,000 listens per interview, on one station, in one city,
in one second.…And these numbers build and accumulate with each interview, in each city. Just three interviews on a major market station and you are already at 90,000 listens. Further, the “listens” are concentrated in particular cities, making it feasible for the author or filmmaker to travel there for presentations. That won’t happen with Youtube.
This internship is designed to teach you how to be a full-commission salesperson, selling radio interview campaigns to indie authors and filmmakers. This helps get them exposure that they could not normally get themselves. Later on, you may also get to sell to inventors, speakers, consultants and website owners.
Technically you would be an inside salesperson, and you would get paid sales-commission from your very first sale! Our top salesperson has made over $80,000 in annual commission, doing just part-time selling of a similar product, so you have a great goal to shoot for as a new salesperson! We start you out slowly, however, so that you can learn step-by-step.
Your job starts out by just emailing indie authors or filmmakers (using leads and sources we provide), to see if they have interest in getting pricing on our campaigns. This is the first few weeks. Then, you follow up with pricing emails, and around week 3 or 4 you start receiving packages and making phone calls. If you are good, you can make your first sale in the first month! Pay is full-commission, 20 percent of every sale you make. There is no base pay or hoursly pay, just the commission (the highest-paying sales jobs are always full-commission). Sale prices start at $2500 and go up, so commission starts at $500 and goes up. There is no limit to how much you can make; the more you work, and the more sales you make, the larger your paycheck is (shouldn’t everything work that way?)
And it’s the most flexible workday in the world: You can come and go whenever you want, as long as you get your hours in for the week (Saturday is available too). Here are the requirements for the hours:
1st Month: At least 10 hours/wk.
2nd Month: At least 20 hours/wk.
3rd Month and onwards: At least 30 hours/wk.Our previous interns have been hired by Universal, MTV, Warner Music Group, Inside Edition, the Country radio station in LA, music stores, indie labels, the Whiskey, a film marketing company, etc etc. So even if you are making money here, it’s still possible to find an additional position somewhere that fits exactly what you are looking to do.
Full training is provided, so don’t think that you have to figure things out on your own. School credit is available too if needed. If school credit is not needed, then resume’ credit and references are given instead. The main requirement is fast typing, and a love for indie books or films!
There is no driving, meetings, or events required. You must work from our Santa Monica office, which is open Mon-Sat from 9am to 7pm (choose your own times). You must currently live in the Los Angeles area (no relocations). Site: www.radio-media.com To apply, call 310-998-8305 ext. 84 and leave a message, or email. No walk-ins accepted. Hope to hear from you!
