In The Meantime Men’s Group, Inc. is a non-profit community service organization that focuses on the physical, spiritual and emotional well-being of black gay, same gender loving, and bisexual men in LA County. We are currently recruiting candidate(s) who have first hand experience interacting with our target population between 18-29 years of age. While the desired qualifications and experiences are described below, ITMT is willing to provide training to perform the identified job functions, thus candidates with different previous experiences are encouraged to apply. This opportunity is a unique community based participatory research project designed to engage, educate, and empower young black gay men to make healthier lifestyle choices. Candidates must be willing to work some non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, and must also be comfortable engaging Black Gay men specifically in public social venues, as well as discussing issues around sexuality and sexual expression. The ideal candidate must have the ability to build rapport with the target population. Persons who fit the target population are encouraged to apply.
I. Position: Research/Outreach Assistant
The Research/Outreach Assistant will function under the supervision of the Project Coordinator/Executive Director. The hours vary to include some evenings and weekends. In the Meantime Men’s Group Inc. offers a competitive pay rate, excellent benefits, and a great work environment.
II. Essential Functions
• Assist in recruiting, screening, and enrolling young African American MSM for a group-level HIV prevention project.
• Assist with data collection using a computerized questionnaire with participants.
• Recruit young African American MSM from physical and virtual (Internet) venues for enrollment in the project.
• Schedule eligible participants for the computerized data collection sessions.
• Ability to assist in facilitation of HIV prevention group sessions.
• Assist the Project Coordinator in scheduling intervention sessions and conducting follow-up contacts with participants during the post-intervention follow up.
• Assist the Project Coordinator in the compilation and collection of process data for program evaluation.
• Ability to take direction.
• Other duties as assigned.III. Job Qualifications and Experience
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below reflect the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Computer/Software Skills & Abilities: Should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
• Ability to speak effectively in a group setting.
• Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
• Great interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
• Must be available to work on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
• Must have reliable transportation with liability insurance.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Valid California driver’s license.Anticipated Start Date: Mid January
