Community Facilitators-Care Givers (San Gabriel Valley Communities )

  • If you are bi-lingual in English and speak one of these foreign languages (Spanish, Armenian, or Korean), and have experience supporting children, teens, & adults with autism or other developmental disability, we have several part-time, mostly after school positions available located in the San Gabriel Valley communities, the Whittier area and La Crescenta/LaCanada communities. Jay Nolan Community Services (JNCS) is a non-profit and supports individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Our mission is to help support individuals with all types of disabilities, so that they may live, work, & play as independently as possible in their own homes and in their community. DUTIES: We are looking for qualified candidates with experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviors who would like to be part of our team in supporting a person with a diagnosis of Autism or developmental disability. Support would be provided in the individual’s home and community. Specific types of support are based on the individual’s needs, interests, and desires. You will be required to teach community safety and awareness, social interactions and self help skills. QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidates must have experience supporting individuals with autism or other developmental disability. You must be a team player, caring, respectful, responsible and outgoing. You must be able to use community resources to help the supported individual become independent, reach goals and play. An understanding of various cultural differences and Autism is essential. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Special interest in the arts, music, sports and other activities is a plus. The positions are part-time, usually after school hours, Mon.-Sun., the hours and days will vary and will be determined by the parents. Depending on the individual being supported, you may be required to assist with personal hygiene, support the individual through a seizure or behavioral episodes and be able to transfer/lift the person in and out of a wheelchair. Knowledge of public transportation and the college system is a plus. You must have a reliable auto, valid CA driver’s license, and current auto insurance. Some of the open positions also require bi-lingual language skills (Eng./Span; Eng/Korean; Eng/Armenian)
