Fine/Decorative Arts Gallery Seeks Interior Design Assistant (Hollywood)
-
High-end contemporary art and mid-century modern design/furniture gallery in Hollywood is looking for a full-time entry-level interior design assistant who is enthusiastic and eager to learn, and who can prove themselves over time and eventually grow into a position as our own in-house designer who can work on design projects either in conjunction with the principal designer/owner or completely independently when needed.
This is not your typical entry-level design job.
Time will be split into two main areas: assisting the principal designer in general and with interior design curation, and assisting with gallery presentation and operations.
Bottom line requirements:
• Proficient in CAD and Sketch-up
• Proficient on a Mac platform
• Design school graduate preferred
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Able to multitask, work well with others and communicate effectively
Assisting principal designer/owner:
• Managing owner’s schedule, keeping track of appointments, etc.
• Accompanying him on necessary appointments with designers and clients, taking detailed notes of projects, deadlines, and any other pertinent details.
• Managing vendors and custom projects on strict deadlines.
• Working on CAD and Sketch-up to do furniture drawings for custom orders as well as room/house layouts for design projects.
• Helping with color/upholstery choices.
• Based on assistant’s design sense and expertise, they could be asked very quickly to design whole rooms and houses and present fully formulated designs to owner.
Gallery presentation & operations:
• Basically making sure the gallery is presentable and beautiful on a daily basis.
• Cleaning up clutter, putting furniture pieces or anything else back in their places, dusting and cleaning items when necessary, etc.
• Hanging art and sculptures, rearranging the gallery, figuring out where to place new pieces, keeping lists of maintenance needed for gallery upkeep (ie patching holes, painting touch-ups) etc.
The details:
• 40 hours a week, sometimes during evenings or weekends
• $10 an hour to start
• Three-month probationary period
• Benefits and possible change to salaried position available after probationary period; these will be based solely on learning curve and job performance.
This position is an extraordinary opportunity for a person looking to enter the interior design/curation field while being exposed to a high volume/dollar gallery. Current projects include significant architectural homes that are going to be heavily published upon completion. We are looking for a well-educated interior design graduate who possesses skills that will supplement and compliment the principal designer.
