Food Technologist & Food Technician (2 Direct-Hire Positions) (Commerce, CA)

  • FOOD TECHNOLOGIST (DIRECT-HIRE POSITION)

    Location: Commerce, CA
    Pay Rate: $50 – $60K annually

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Develops experimental formulas, processing procedures and specifications for new products.
    • Prepares prototype products using research lab, manufacturing facilities and equipment as required.
    • Evaluates ingredients and processing techniques to identify product improvement and cost optimization opportunities.
    • Conducts product cuttings and shelf life studies including product and package performance evaluations.
    • Establishes contact with ingredient suppliers and equipment vendors as needed by project activity.
    • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records, laboratory notebooks and computer database that are repeatable and reproducible.
    • Supports innovation in the development of new ideas, new products or new product platforms through ideation sessions and bench top experimentation.
    • Ensures the work environment is sanitary, safe, and orderly.
    • Create and maintain raw ingredient and finished product specifications.
    • Create, maintain and issue technical documents, product specifications and kosher certificates.
    • Maintain internal and external technical web-based database and complete customer product forms.
    • Issue import and export documents such as Certificates of Origin, Free Sale, Quality, NAFTA, CAFTA.
    • Assist R&D, Technical Services, QA and Operations on special projects.

    Qualifications and Requirements:
    1. B.S. in Food Science or related field required and 2-5 years of R&D / Technical Services / QA experience.
    2. Strong working knowledge of food ingredients, packaging and manufacturing environments.
    3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    4. PC / internet skills (Excel, Word, database) and Genesis; and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing.
    5. Must enjoy working in a fast paced and team oriented environment.

    FOOD TECHNICIAN (DIRECT-HIRE POSITION)

    Location: Commerce, CA
    Pay Rate: $12.00 – $14.50/hr

    Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Prepare and fulfill customer and sales samples timely.
    • Prepare paperwork for samples to be sent to customers and take to UPS area for shipment.
    • Make prototypes and batches of new formulas.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, laboratory notebooks and computer database that are repeatable and reproducible. Includes logging and updating status on sample requests, NPC, R&D projects & reports onto I2D worksite.
    • Offer full support to test runs and scale-ups as required.
    • Develop long-term projects with existing and potential customers by helping them with all necessary requirements and datelines.
    • Maintain both lab and equipment.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications and Requirements:
    • B.S. in Food Science or related field preferred.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must enjoy working in a fast paced and team oriented environment.
    • Ability to work with numbers and calculations.
    • Attention to high level accuracy and detail.
    • PC / internet skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, database) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing.”
