This position is full-time and based out of our Los Angeles, CA office. For applicants located outside of the greater LA area, Oblong offers relocation assistance.

What you would do: As an on-site Installation Engineer (Linux appliance focus), you will be responsible for most aspects of an on-site customer installation. This would include coordination, logistics, execution, systems integration, project management and customer training for our high-end deliverable solutions to our worldwide customers. You will also have the opportunity to task your analytical and technical mind in helping to hone and polish our current and forthcoming solutions. You must have a strong understanding of core Linux and networking technologies and a willingness and ability to assemble and manage light physical construction of our systems.

Responsibilities:
• Perform site surveys
• Create & maintain bill of materials
• Assist in hardware procurement
• Manage and organize logistics for on-site delivery
• Liaise directly with customers
• Perform site installations including:
-Site surveys and system integration preparations
-Physical assembly of Oblong’s solutions (display mounting, computer racking, cable management, etc.)
-Installation and configuration of Oblong’s g-speak software
-Integration into the customer’s environment (network, security policies, etc.)
-Manage site installation resources
-Network and system management, customizations and integration
• Develop post-installation site documentation
• Develop installation procedures and help streamline processes for internal and external use
• Co-maintain internal development systems
• Assist in continued development of customer support processes and procedures

You are a quick learner who excels at creating and implementing on-the-spot solutions and thinking on your feet. You’re also comfortable diving into the hardware, software and networking of a high-end workstation and are excited about managing logistics, processes and inventory to help mature a growing product.

Requirements:
• A high degree of comfort configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware
• Experience administering computers and networks and working inside servers
• Strong understanding of core Linux and networking technologies
• 3+ years Linux systems administration or IT experience
• Capable of physical labor & light construction, and ability to safely operate power tools
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to comfortably and professionally interface with customers
• Exceptionally organized and detail oriented
• Works well autonomously and as part of a team
• Willing to travel up to 50%, sometimes internationally
