Lawyer for Contingency Case (SFV/Los Angeles)

  • We are owed money by a beauty company that represents an A-list celebrity. We need not only collect for revenue we generated, but also for work done. We were fraudulently coerced into signing a deal based on promises they could not keep. We are looking to regain our investment and net compensation for breach of contract.

The number we are looking at without punitive damages is $111k. (Admittedly, our aim is high. We sat for consultation with a firm just yesterday. They believe a reasonable figure to expect is closer to the $60k.)

We want an attorney who will work on contingency, yet we realize the figure is low, and that it’s not really that enticing for most attorneys. The general business practice is to handle these cases hourly. Of course, an hourly wage could very easily threaten the upside of netting any money in the end.

So what we desire is for a lawyer to help us put together a suit that clearly defines our requests, and to handle negotiations. We believe the likelihood of settlement to be high. (See below.) The work is minimal. We have no intention of taking this to court, even though we have a clear breach of contract.

The threat of bad press from the suit will be enough, we believe, to net a settlement from either the celebrity or the company we’ve dealt with. We have contacted a gentleman who dealt with this same company/celebrity, and it is his successful plan that we are following. This celebrity simply settled on behalf of the company she has licensed her image in order to manage PR.
