DESCRIPTION
Essential Function:
The Nurse Manager ensures that all clinical research studies conducted at PAREXEL Los Angeles Early Phase units are performed in compliance with all sponsor protocols; Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and any other applicable regulations. The Nurse Manager will directly oversee the staffing requirements of the nursing staff and ensure that all clinical operations work product is timely, efficient, and of the highest quality.
Key Accountabilities:
Including but not limited to the following and other duties as may be assigned:
-Directs and supervises day to day nursing operations for the units including charge nurses, nursing staff, and registry staff.
-Ensures nursing staff development and competencies (ie: IV blood draw, ECG, etc.).
-Manages all nurse staffing issues related to the units including hiring, scheduling, coaching/counseling, training, evaluating quality and performance, and cancelling nursing and registry shifts.
-Completes PMD process for direct reports.
-Evaluates staff needs and facilitates sharing of staff between departments as requested by Senior Manager, Clinical Operations.
-Collaborates with Medical Director, Physician, Clinical Research Coordinators, and Clinical Operations Management on all clinically relevant issues pertaining to subjects on the units.
-Liaises with Clinical Operations Management to ensure coverage of procedures.
-Assists project/study teams in performing study procedures/nursing functions when necessary (ie: blood draws, ECGs, vitals, etc.)
-Identifies and coordinates staffing needs for the respective units based on study needs and ensures that shifts are distributed fairly among nurses and registries in conjunction with the Senior Manager, Clinical Operations and Charge Nurses.
-Offers and confirms shifts with the nursing staff (including registries).
-Prepares and works with contracted registries to fill in staffing needs when appropriate.
-Takes nursing shifts (days, nights and weekends) as needed.
-Reviews and approves all nursing shifts/timesheets/invoices directly related to nursing (ie: registry invoices, nursing supply order, etc.).
-Ensures and oversees clinical safety and standard nursing care for subjects while on our units.
-Maintains and oversees accurate accountability and administration of all medications on the units.
-Maintains accurate nursing and research related documentation.
-Serves as liaison between PAREXEL and hospital supervisors/administration.
-Creates and conducts appropriate training for nursing related policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
-Maintains, updates, and trains nursing staff/registries in Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) and Good Documentation Practices (GDPs).
-Assists with quality and performance improvement initiatives including identifying areas improvement, staff efficiencies and work assignments, developing action plans, monitoring results and reviewing with Clinical Operations Management.
-Attends Site Initiation Visits (SIVs), participates in clinical/nursing discussions and provides appropriate feedback.

-Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
-Phlebotomy/IV skills.

-Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred
-Licensed Nurse with BLS certification and current CA license required
-ACLS certification requiredLanguage Skills

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
-3-5 years of supervisory/managerial nursing experience in an acute hospital setting or comparable experience in a clinical research environment.
-Computer skills and familiarity with clinical research is high desirable.
-Flexible work schedule (ie: weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays)
