PASSPORT TO LEARNING, INC. is seeking knowledgeable, self-motivated, independent, and professional individuals to fill a PART-TIME or FULL-TIME position as PARENT TRAINER to provide parenting education, training and support to parents with developmentally disabilities (DD) who live in the city of Los Angeles. Candidate must be a ROAD WARRIOR- willing to drive to meet with the client at their home residence, and transport to various appointments and errands in the community several times a week, including driving to our LA based office twice per month to attend staff meetings, trainings, supervisions, and client QA meetings. On the job training is provided.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: AA degree minimally, preferably in a social science field, early childhood development, or education. Some relevant experience is required or demonstrates the knowledge to teach individuals with developmental disabilities. Bilingual/Spanish speaking desired. Certificate in Counseling desired. Extensive background clearance required. Reliable transportation is a must. Candidate must have effective written and verbal communication skills and professional appearance. Candidate must enjoy helping and teaching people. Proficiency in MS WORD & MS EXCEL a plus.

OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS: : experience in report writing to state agencies is a plus, knowledge of intellectual disabilities; understanding of community resources for DD; creativity; and counseling /support group/ instructional or related experience.

SALARY INFORMATION: Starting Hourly Rate- $14.00 (+ mileage); negotiable based on qualifications. Fulltime employees are eligible for health and dental benefits.

PASSPORT TO LEARNING (PTL) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: PTL’S Parenting Program provides services to parents with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The program’s mission is to provide an excellent service that enhances the quality of life for parents with developmental disabilities and their families, to preserve the family unit, and to provide each parent with the tools needed to function and thrive independently in society. The following support services are provided through the PARENT TRAINER:

One to One Counseling, Training and Parent Support

Special Advocacy In:
Juvenile Dependency Court, DCFS, Family Preservation, Drug & Alcohol Counseling,
Domestic Violence Prevention,

Participation in Monthly Parent Education Classes
