Responsibilities of this position include research and formulation of dietary supplements, including nutritional and herbal products, through the production of pilot batches and, ultimately to full-scale manufacturing production.
Essential Responsibilities: The successful manager will have responsibilities including research, formulation, and efficiency validation of dietary supplements. This person will take projects from the concept stage through formulation, to both production of pilot batches and commercial production including champion and justifying new products, new product design, and substantiation.
Liaise with Sales, Marketing and Legal departments to ensure that all labels, collateral, advertisements, etc. are compliant before formal legal review. Prepare FPS, SFP, F-test and formulas. Review all label artwork for finished products as per FDA guidelines of dietary supplements. Reformulation of products based on current trends.
Documentation collection, preparation and filing. Prepare and maintain QC/QA testing logs and verification of test results. Prepare paper formulas and costing based on current pricing in SAP. Maintain and update department SOPs. Willingness to accept additional projects with a positive outlook.
Judgment: Significant judgment on a timely basis is required to appraise the scientific research in relation to the structure function claims and marketing literature. Communication and Interface: Communicate in a clear and effective manner. Interact professionally with all Personnel, including senior levels of management. This position works closely with the Legal, Sales, Marketing, Quality Control and Manufacturing departments. Supervision: Perform duties under general supervision. This position reports to the Director of Research and Development. Position Title: R&D Manager ) Requirements:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutics, or related science field, with 2 — 8 years of Product Development/R&D experience working in the dietary supplement industry. Degree can be substituted with at least 3 — 5 years equivalent work experience in R&D. A strong scientific background is a must, as well as familiarity with trademark and copyright laws. Must have knowledge of dietary supplement ingredients including excipients, as well as experience with DSHEA, Prop-65, FDA and FTC regulations and regulatory labeling compliance. This position will require someone with a managerial background, solid interpersonal skills, and strong computer skills in MS Word/Excel and Internet research. Candidate should possess a strong work ethic, and desire to work as a team and grow within their career. Physical Conditions: Must be able to sit for long periods of time while working on the computer, perform light lifting, and be able to move between floors and locations in the building. This person must also be able to work in an environment having product dust and residual smells of the raw ingredients used in the manufacturing of our products.
