Residential Advisor II (On-Call) (Long Beach, CA)

  • Reports to Shift Supervisor as designated. Conducts daily inspections of dormitories, coordinates dormitory maintenance needs, provides supervision and accountability of students during the assigned shift, and assists students in resolving problems.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Advise students and provide guidance for positive attitude and behavior in dormitory living situation. Maintain a safe, clean and productive dormitory environment at all times.
    2. Patrol and monitor dormitory as required to ensure safety and proper behavior of students; resolving potential or occurring problems.
    3. Conduct daily dormitory inspections by inspecting common areas and each individual room. Prepare inspection results and reports.
    4. Assist and supervise students who may be referred to the dormitories during the training day for special circumstances.
    5. Recommend or requisition supplies to provide for the needs of dormitory living and the safety of students. Submit work orders as necessary for dormitory maintenance.
    6. Prepare Dormitory Status Report accurately and subnit the report to the Student Records Department on a daily basis.
    7. Conduct hourly bed checks throughout the night to ensure accountability of all students assigned to the dormitory. As necessary, update the Dormitory Status Report.
    8. Maintain individual student files; ensure files are complete, updated and contain all required documentation.
    9. Perform administrative duties, e.g., student evaluations, case note student progress, track issued property, and attend training.
    10. Ensure dorms are clean and inspection ready at all times.
    11. Cultivate and maintain a positive climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect in order to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
    12. Report any instances of negative dormitory disturbances or occurrences immediately to the Center Director’s office and your supervisor.
    13. Assist in transportation of students to and from center functions, airport or bus stations as requested.
    14. Assist in preparation of pass list and other administrative correspondence relating to students.
    15. Clearly communicate and consistently model appropriate employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
    16. Maintain accountability of property, adhere to safety practices, and perform safety inspections in area of responsibility.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    High school diploma/GED and 2 years experience in a related field such as counseling, social work, rehabilitation or vocational guidance.
    Completion of a Masters, Bachelors or Associates degree may be substituted for experience.
    Valid drivers’ license in the state of California with an acceptable driving record.
    Able to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
    Able to read email daily and reply to messages in a timely manner based on urgency and importance.
