Sanitation Supervisor (Vernon)

  • The Sanitation Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities with food safety and sanitation programs. This position is responsible for management of plant cleaning, sanitation, pest control, and compliance with GMP’s, sanitation policies and procedures. Prior experience in a bakery plant is desired.

    Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
    • Manage level of adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices with regard to sanitation which may include participation in validating SSOP program
    • Monitor and audit processing and packaging equipment cleaning systems to ensure optimal operation. Recommend and implement adjustment as approved
    • Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory product quality standards, sanitation standards, food safety standards, employee safety and environmental standards
    • Work closely with management and production personnel on sanitation problems recommending changes to improve sanitation policies, procedures, and standards
    • Perform comprehensive sanitation audits and develop more streamlined tracking and reporting process for sanitation audit reports
    • Compile regular reports regarding inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies
    • Continue the development of training programs for sanitation and GMPs and provide continual training to employees
    • Work with Plant Manager and QA Director to manage and maintain master sanitation schedule and daily sanitation and housekeeping logs
    • Work with QA Director to facilitate and implement action responses to address sanitation and regulatory trends
    • Work with chemical suppliers and QA Director on chemical changes/sanitation improvements, results and costs related to plant sanitation
    • Support the on-going plant pest monitoring and control program by managing plant pest control activities and contracted pest control service while maintaining compliance with all applicable GMPs and organic resolutions
    • Monitors shift performance through performance measurement tools and provide feedback to staff. Will supervisor sanitation/housekeeping employees with varying levels of experience.
    • Ensures employees are checking and maintaining cleaning records indicating frequency, duration, temperature, concentration and use of final sanitizing product, verifying employees handle and mix chemicals properly.
    • Ensures compliance with State, Federal and company sanitation and safety regulations including using all required Personal Protective Equipment
    • Ensures all employees receive proper training, such as GMP, SSOP, Safety and Operations. Communicates company objectives to employees. Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and training as required.
    • Assists with Human Resource functions on shift including interviewing potential employees, performance reviews, employee relations issues and overall company communication.

    Qualifications/Abilities/Education
    • BS degree in Food Science/Microbiology or related field preferred or combination of experience and education
    • 3 plus years experience in food/bakery manufacturing environment
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills at all organizational levels
    • Ability to effectively perform multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
    • Proven ability to analyze large amounts of complex data
    • Ability to work evenings, weekend, and holidays with ability to rotate shifts as needed
    • Enjoy a hands-on work environment
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Medium level of proficiency with MS Office mainly Excel and Word
    • Ability to drive forklift/scissors-lift to clean overheads preferred but not required
    • Bi-Lingual Spanish/English preferred but not required

    Physical Demands:

    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
    • Must be able to walk the entire plant frequently
    • May perform heavy manual labor
    • Must be able to work in confined spaces
    • Frequent to continuous standing, walking, and reaching below shoulder level. Occasional to frequent walking on uneven terrain, extension of neck, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, pulling, pushing, reaching at shoulder level, climbing ladders and stairs. Infrequent sitting, kneeling, and crawling
    Work Environment:

    • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
    • The ability to work carefully around food processing, baking and mixing machines including conveyor belts, fans, ovens and mixers
    • Hot, cold and wet environmental conditions
    • Hazard: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat, extreme cold and to chemicals
    • Atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions may affect the respiratory system and/or the skin: fumes, odors, dust mists, gases or poor ventilation. Respirator use is required.
