Senior Network Engineer (Los Angeles)

  • Hypermedia Systems has an excellent full-time opportunity for a self motivated and independent Senior Network Engineer.

    The Senior Network Engineer position requires an extremely responsible person who will support the around-the-clock operations of Hypermedia Systems’ geographically dispersed data centers. This is a HANDS-ON position responsible for the oversight, engineering, administration, and maintenance for all aspects of the data center networks. This person will also provide IT support for the corporate networks and server infrastructure.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Architect and engineer new and existing data centers and office networks and other related infrastructure. Responsible for routine and preventative maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements for all data center and office networks.
    • Planning, coordination and reporting in terms of bandwidth utilization, uptime, performance, security issues and audits.
    • Install, configure, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN appliances.
    • Responsible for initial documentation on all new projects that stem from the Network Engineering department.
    • Responsible for bug testing new IOS and firmware for network related equipment before deployment into the production network.
    • Install, configure, and maintain existing and new Network Management Systems.
    • Responsible for overall network security. This includes ingress and egress ACLs, switch port level security, remote VPN client downloadable dynamic ACLs, etc.
    • Test and evaluate new network equipment, NMS applications, security software and hardware, etc.
    • Manage relationships with other departments, customers, contractors, and vendors.
    • Provide 3rd level support for lower level Network Engineers.
    • Provide 24 x 7 On Call support on a rotational basis.
    • Willing to work on projects involving after-hours and weekend work.

    Background and Experience:

    • Technical degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
    • 7 – 9 years experience that includes operational support, hands-on implementing and configuration of network devices such as Cisco and Brocade / Foundry routers and switches, load balancers, UPS, servers, and cabling in a large LAN//MAN/WAN environment.
    • 1 & 10-Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, T-1, and DS-3 experience a must. ATM and SONET experience a plus.
    • Layer 2 & 3 switching, VLANs (ISL + 802.1q), trunking / ether channel, and rapid spanning tree protocol
    • Routing Protocols: EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP ( extensive BGP experience a plus)
    • Cisco ACS, TACACS+, RADIUS, Secure ID
    • Network and system security knowledge a plus. (heavy access-list experience preferred)
    • Services: DNS, DHCP, POP, SMTP, SNMP understand and configuration set up a must.
    • UNIX / Linux experience a must.
    • NMS: Solar Winds NPM, OpenView, Nerve Center, Netcool Omnibus, SNMP agents, MRTG, sFlow and NetFlow experience a plus
    • Data Center experience a requirement (initial setup, configuration, and maintaining the environment)
    • Firm understanding of IP addressing allocation and management. IPv6 a plus.
    • Strong communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the networking process.
    • Japanese speaking a plus.

    • Compensation: $100,000-$120,000 Annual
