Demand Media is an intensely data-driven organization and is seeking an expert SQL Data Analyst to join our advanced analytics team. The ideal candidate must possess expert SQL code and algorithm development skills and have a passion for solving complex data challenges while maintaining an intense focus on meeting aggressive delivery dates. You must have an exceptional background with a minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience within very data-focused organizations. You will be interfacing with employees at all levels and must have strong communication skills that will enable you to quickly understand needs and turn these into high-quality data deliverables.

This position is located in Santa Monica, CA.

Responsibilities:

• Work as a member of the Advanced Analytics team to understand the needs of the business and design reports, analysis and presentations to help them manage their business and leverage experience to provide value-added data deliverables.

• Create complex SQL queries, perform ad hoc and exploratory analysis, propose solutions to data and reporting needs and ensure compliance to corporate data security requirements for the storage, transportation and retention of data.

• Construct mathematically supported arguments and models in response to business needs.

Requirements:

• BA in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or related.

• 5 years practical experience in SQL query scripting, tuning, debugging, troubleshooting, and execution. At least 1 year of which must have been in a highly data-intensive organization working with large-scale, complex datasets and delivering against short timeframes.

• Previous internet industry experience with strong skills in web/search analytics or search engine optimization (SEO) principles is highly desirable.

• Proficiency in Perl, Python or other scripting language and ability to work with large raw text files is a plus

• Must be a problem-solver. Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated and takes initiative.

• Strong communication and data presentation skills
