Do you love animals and want to help them? Global Animal is currently recruiting two exceptional interns to contribute to the daily operations of the online news magazine devoted to animal news around the globe.

This unpaid internship is especially valuable to an animal-loving student who wants to make a difference in the way animals are treated and perceived. In exchange, you will get real world experience in new media journalism and see your articles published. This internship is tailored to those who are seeking college credit, while building writing skills and a usable portfolio. Global Animal is a high-paced environment where you will never be asked to make copies or coffee. You will leave a better writer.

Seeking fun and creative people with these talents:
• Excellent research, copywriting, creative writing, and copyediting abilities
• Great communication skills and verbal command of the English language
• Web savvy and computer literate:
- working understanding of the blogosphere, SEO, social networking and online marketing
- word processing and ability to work with media (e.g., photos, videos) and load content to Word Press
- ideally, some working knowledge of html code
• Familiar with AP style guide
• Self-starter who can see projects through to completion

Responsibilities:
• Online research of stories & writing headlines & Articles
• Communicating with content contributors
• Contributing to the grant writing process
• Working to enhance SEO, readership & donations, ad sales, and online shopping
• Pitching & writing assigned stories (frequency determined by intern’s interest)
• Meeting publication deadlines

Ideally, you can commit between 15-25 hours per week, which will be a flexible combination of working at our office in downtown Santa Monica and completing assignments off-site. Internships begin in January, 2011 and can be arranged on a per-semester or month-to-month basis, including the summer months. If you believe we’d be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you!
