Teachers Test Prep, Inc. is a test preparation company that offers subject-matter-focused review classes for California credential candidates taking the CSET and other certification exams. We are currently hiring a teacher for our CSET Single Subject English test prep classes held at Santa Monica College. This challenging exam covers subject matter through the 12th grade level. Subtests include: (1) Literature and Textual Analysis; Composition and Rhetoric, (2) Language, Linguistics, and Literacy, (3) Composition and Rhetoric; Literature and Textual Analysis, (4) Communications: Speech, Media, and Creative Performance. Candidates must be able to teach all four subtests.

The position details are as follows:

Position description: Lecture one weekend (16 hours) every two months at Santa Monica College, utilizing pre-designed Teachers Test Prep classroom presentations, study guides and practice tests. Present subject matter and test-taking techniques in a clear and engaging manner, and answer questions while maintaining necessary pace to cover all key subject matter in the time allotted. (Class size ranges from approximately 10 to 40 students.) Individual will also have the opportunity to provide one-on-one tutoring to students needing additional help.

Hours/Location: Part-time; typically one weekend every two months for classes, and flexible schedule for tutoring. Classes held at Santa Monica College.

Equipment: Individual must have a reliable laptop computer capable of running PowerPoint presentations.

Compensation: $35-$50/hr, dependent on qualifications.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelors degree. Has taken and passed all four CSET English subtests. At least two years of experience teaching in the subject area at the high school level. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong understanding of the subject matter concepts in each subject matter domain that candidate will teach. Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for helping students learn.

Preferred qualifications: Graduate degree. Distinguished academic record. Desire to also work as a private tutor (flexible schedule) in addition to teaching classes.
