The Public Safety Communications Office is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Telecommunications Technician or Senior Telecommunications Technician.
Do you have a FCC, NABER, APCO or NARTE License? Do you have 2 years of experience maintaining, repairing, modifying or testing electronic telecommunications equipment? Do you have experience working on VHF, UHF or microwave lightwave telecommunications equipment?

We have positions statewide. Look no further. Join our Team!This position installs, maintains, and repairs telecommunications equipment and systems for the State of California’s public safety agencies.
Typical Duties Include:
• Repair and install VHF equipment, such as VHF conventional and VHF combining antenna systems, computer-based logging recorders, dispatch console systems, base stations, mobile repeaters, mobile radio equipment, public address systems, VHF DC and AC power systems, telephone equipment.
• Perform equipment testing, manufacture equipment compliance testing, install and interconnect radio systems into a mock-up environment, and perform system performance testing.
• Install and repair MW equipment such as microwave RF radios, multiplex equipment both analog and digital, MW power systems, MW antenna systems, battery chargers, battery bank, and alarm-monitoring systems.
• Operate complex test equipment used in checking Public Safety Radio equipment and operate computers to program, diagnose and adjust Public Safety Radio equipment to ensure it is within FCC specifications.
Requirements:
• Possession of FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Two years of experience within the last five years in maintaining, repairing, modifying or testing electronic telecommunications equipment, one year of which must have been with VHF, UHF or microwave lightwave telecommunications equipment.
• Able to pass background check and physical exam.
• Public Safety radio sites are located in both urban and remote mountainous environments.
• Requires physical agility and stamina to work in and around telecommunications equipment, systems and radio vaults. Working at altitudes in excess of 10 thousand feet.
• Travel to urban and mountainous remote sites. Operate 4 wheel-drive and snow vehicles in inclement weather conditions such as rain, snow and mud on and off road in mountainous remote locations.
• Work on telecommunications towers and structures in excess of 100 feet.
