Tutors Needed, Upper Level Subjects (Los Angeles Area)

  • Please read this entire ad carefully before responding.

We are looking for a few good tutors to work with students in the LA area, especially, but not limited to the East San Fernando Valley and the West San Gabriel Valley. Subjects include the following, in descending order of importance:

    Chemistry
Calculus (AP and college, AB and BC)
Physics (1st year, AP, and college)
    Writing/AP English
    PreCalculus
    Trigonometry
    Geometry
    Statistics
Test Preparation (ACT, SAT, GMAT, SSAT, ISEE, Etc.)
    Spanish

If you cannot teach at least three of these subjects, do not respond.

Tutors should be available on Monday through Thursday evenings. Tutoring bookings typically run from 4-10pm. Sometimes there are jobs that are earlier. Also, availability on one weekend day is desirable, as students often like to schedule 2-hour blocks on weekends.

You should be patient, genuinely like kids, get along well with them, and believe that kids are young adults who deserve to be treated with care and respect. When you have the right rapport with the student, both of you have fun, and the time flies by. If tutoring feels like work to you, you’re doing something wrong.

You must have reliable transportation. This tutoring is performed in people’s homes, and you drive to them. You also must be able to pass a background check.

Not only must your transportation be dependable, you must be, too. If you are not in the habit of keeping appointments punctually, do not respond.

You need to be confident in your knowledge of your subjects, and confident in your ability to teach those subjects to others. You should also be able to restudy subjects quickly, so that you can stay ahead of your students, and always be prepared. You must be professional at all times. This does not mean you must be “serious” (in fact, seriousness is seriously discouraged).

You need to be trustworthy. We do not expect you to work exclusively for us, but we do expect you to treat our students as you would your own where scheduling is concerned, and to never, ever go around us and take our students and the referrals that come from them.

This is an independent contractor gig, and you will be responsible for making and keeping your own appointments, in coordination with us. You will also be responsible for all of your own taxes.

The pay will be $35 to $40 per hour of delivery, depending on your experience, expertise, and subjects.

If this appeals to you, and you meet the qualifications, please email a resume, along with any pertinent details about yourself, including subjects taught, tutoring experience, where you live and are willing to drive to, and general availability, to the address on this ad. If you have any student testimonials, please include them. We will respond to all qualified applicants. Thanks!

    Sincerely,
    Mike and Claudia
